DESCRIPTION:Connecting parents with their peers \n\n\n\nMyTime is a FREE peer support program for parents and carers of children with disability\, developmental delay\, concern about their child’s development or cronic medical condition.It’s a regular meeting place where you can unwind\, socialise\, discuss\, get information\, and support and be supported by other parents and family carers. It’s a world away from appointments and therapy. It’s support for you! \n\n\n\nMembers get to plan the group sessions around their specific needs as carers. \n\n\n\nMyTime Marrickville is run by parent-peer workers who have shared experience in raising a child with disabilities and delays. \n\n\n\n\n\nAt MyTime\, you can look forward to: \n\n\n\n\nChat over tea/coffee – In some MyTime sessions; members relax over a coffee\, talk about their week and share advice and information.\n\n\n\nLearn something new – In some sessions\, the facilitator or a guest speaker might lead discussions on a topic of interest.\n\n\n\nTake care of yourself – sometimes\, the group might have fun with an activity aimed at helping members relax and look after their well-being.\n\n\n\nBuild your village of support with likeminded families that understand.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis program is for\n\n\n\nParents\, family members and primary carers of children aged 0–18 years who have a disability\, developmental delay\, are neurodivergent or if there are concerns about their development. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen\n\n\n\nFive fortnightly sessions\, each two hours long.All sessions run from 11am to 1pm AEDT for NSW\, ACT\, VIC and TAS.You’re welcome to join any session\, or let us know during registration if you prefer a specific one.While we offer suggested discussion topics\, you’re always welcome to bring any questions or themes that matter most to you. \n\n\n			\n								\n							\n						\n								\n							\n			Wednesday 29 April | The journey of parent carersMany parents share similar experiences when raising a child with developmental concerns. The sessions include singing\, playing percussion instruments\, dancing\, and storytelling—all with a strong focus on interaction and communication. \n\n\n\nStarting in a new group can sometimes be challenging. DESCRIPTION:A workshop on helping children feel confident when visiting your library Some children prefer familiar routines and may feel anxious when going to new places\, including the library. A simple social story can help prepare them for the day and enjoy the experience.  \n\n\n\nSocial stories or social scripts are a research‑informed practical tool to help all children understand what to expect and feel more at ease. In this workshop\, you will learn how to create a social story tailored for your library that families can print or access online. Social stories can explain routines\, spaces and experiences in a clear\, friendly way to support a smoother\, more confident visit.  \n\n\n\nFacilitated by a librarian\, a parent peer worker and a specialist early childhood teacher\, this practical session will give you the tools to make your library more welcoming and inclusive. DESCRIPTION:Support your child to thrive at school and develop effective learning goals with educators.   \n\n\n\nEncouraging children to become independent young adults and voice their opinions is an important role for parents. How can we nurture this at school for relevant and achievable learning outcomes for children with disability or developmental delay?  \n\n\n\nParents’ opinions are usually included in developing learning plans with educators\, but without the child’s participation\, the goals developed may not use the child’s strengths and interests for the best outcomes. It’s never too early to start giving children opportunities to make choices.  \n\n\n\nNow & Next School is an evidence-based program to discover your child’s strengths\, coach them to make choices and enhance collaboration with educators for an effective Individual Education Plan.  \n\n\n\nThe four-session program is based on positive psychology\, the science of wellbeing and our Child Voice model (Mahmic & Janson\, 2019).  \n\n\n\n\n\nLearn about: \n\n\n\n\nAchieving better outcomes by working in partnership with educators \n\n\n\nCoaching your child to use their strengths to achieve goals \n\n\n\nPractical strategies for improving your child’s wellbeing  \n\n\n\nTaking a proactive role in developing\, review\, and strengthen your child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) \n\n\n\nFostering your child’s independent decision-making through our Child Voice model and resources \n\n\n\n\nReceive a report tailored to your child and parenting style to use in Goal Builder\, a resource you can bring to planning meetings or IEPs.
