Getting started with Plumtree
Plumtree is a registered NDIS provider. Every family is unique and parents know their child best. That’s why we partner with you to create a package that fits your child and family’s needs. Our team works from the heart to help you meet your goals.
If you’re not using the NDIS, you’ll also find options further down this page.
We make beginning with Plumtree simple and supportive.
For families with NDIS funding
- A free 30minute online meeting to get to know your family and talk about how we work. Your child does not need to attend. If they do, it’s helpful to have an activity for them to do while we complete the meeting.
- Bring your NDIS plan and goals if you have them. We will complete a Service Agreement if you choose to work with us.
- We’ll help you book your first therapy session at the end of that meeting.
- Your main therapist becomes your Key Worker, coordinating support if you work with more than one professional.
- Regular sessions are 75 minutes: 60 minutes together + 15 minutes for your therapist to plan and record progress.
- Sessions focus on everyday routines, play, and parent participation — so you gain skills to support your child at home and in the community.

Step 1:
Our first meeting
Your welcome session
This first conversation helps us understand your child, your routines and what matters most to your family.
During this meeting we will:
- Explain how Plumtree works with families
- Complete forms needed to begin services
- Answer any questions you have about the
NDIS or therapy - Get to know your child’s strengths, interests and goals
What to bring:
- Your NDIS plan
- Your child’s goals
If you choose to start with Plumtree, we’ll complete a Service Agreement with you. This applies whether your funding is Self-Managed, Plan-Managed or NDIA-Managed
At the end of the meeting, we’ll book your first therapy session.

Step 2:
Meeting your
therapist
Your first session with your main therapist is one hour, followed by 30 minutes of planning time.
Your therapist will guide you through a planning activity using Pictability, which helps you create a vision and set goals for your child, yourself and your family.
Your therapist will then:
- Help refine your child’s goals
- Work with you to choose focus areas
- Become your Key Worker, your ongoing point of contact at Plumtree
If more than one therapist becomes involved, each new therapist also takes 30 minutes after their first session to plan next steps.

Step 3:
Your regular
sessions
Every session is shaped around your family’s priorities. Each 75 minute NDIS funded session includes:
- 60 minutes together
- 15 minutes for your therapist to plan and prepare, included in the NDIS price guide timing
In each session:
- You and your therapist review progress since your last visit
- You agree on the focus for the day
- Strategies are playful, practical and built
around your child’s strengths and interests - Parents and carers are active participants.
You learn alongside your child (Watching can be helpful, but joining in gives you the most benefit.) - You leave with ideas to try at home before the next session
This approach helps learning happen in your child’s everyday routines, making progress more meaningful.
What happens after your session
Your therapist will make notes, reflect on progress, and prepare for the next steps. Sessions continue at a pace that suits your family. Talk to us about getting started
Therapy options
If your child needs therapy and does not have an NDIS plan, there are still options available. You may be able to access therapy through:
- Private health insurance
- Medicare, with a care plan from your GP
- Private payment
You can also contact Lifestart, the early childhood partner for the Sydney region, to learn about accessing support through the NIDS Early Childhood Approach.
Fees and charges
At Plumtree, we follow NDIS guidelines when charging for our services. We are committed to providing high-quality, personalised support for your child and family. We charge for:
- Preparation time
Each session includes 15 minutes of therapist preparation to support personalised and effective services. - Individual sessions
Time spent working with you and your child, either together or in a parent-only session. Sessions may also involve other professionals at your child’s school or early childhood education and care (ECEC) setting. These can take place at home, in the community, or in educational settings. - Travel time
Therapist time spent travelling to your child’s location. Non-labour travel costs include kilometres travelled (to and from), tolls, and parking if needed. Costs depend on distance.
- Resource making, report writing, and phone calls
Activities related to your child’s development, goals, or progress. These are discussed and agreed with you in advance. - Consultations with other therapists or professionals
Time spent coordinating with other professionals involved in your child’s support, such as educators or allied health providers. This is only charged with your prior agreement. - Cancellations
If a session is cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice, the full session will be charged. This includes preparation and travel time already completed.
Therapists complete session notes after each session, and a copy is shared with you.
