NDIS provider Inner West
Plumtree is a registered NDIS provider supporting children from birth to 8 years and their families.
If your child has an NDIS plan, we work with you to understand what is important to your family and how your child’s NDIS goals can be part of everyday life at home, preschool or school and in the community.
If you have an approved NDIS plan and would like to find out about getting started with Plumtree, please get in touch.
If your child is already an NDIS participant

If your child is already receiving NDIS support, there is no immediate change to their NDIS eligibility because of the new access arrangements.
Children aged 8 and under who are accessing the NDIS before 1 January 2028 will continue to be reassessed using the eligibility criteria in place before that date.
Once they turn 9, they will be reassessed under the new eligibility criteria based on functional capacity, from 1 January 2028.
The NDIA has said that participants will receive information before changes or reassessments take place.
For now, families can continue with their child’s current supports.

Your NDIS plan
Every family has different priorities. We work with you to understand your child’s NDIS goals and decide what you would like to focus on first.
Plumtree uses an approach called Plan and Do. Families know their child best, so we bring together your knowledge of your child and family with our professional knowledge.
Together, we break larger goals into practical steps that can be used during everyday activities and routines. We look at what is working, what we are learning and what to try next.

Therapy sessions do not all look the same!

Every family has different priorities, so sessions can look different depending on what you and your child are working towards.
Sessions can happen at home, at your child’s childcare centre, preschool or school, in the community, online or at our centre in Marrickville.
Some sessions may involve your child directly. At other times, it may be more useful to work with you or with other people who spend time with your child.
This creates more opportunities for children to learn, practise and participate during everyday routines, not only while a therapist is there.
Plumtree offers a range of specialist supports through a range of different programs.
How Plumtree works in educational settings
We can work with you and your child’s preschool, school or early childhood setting to support your child’s participation in everyday routines and learning alongside other children.
You and your family have the ongoing relationship with your child’s education setting. We work alongside you and educators as part of the team around your child.
During visits, we can share practical ideas and strategies with educators that they can use during everyday activities and routines when we are not there.

What is a parent-only meeting?

Sometimes the most useful session is a conversation between you and your Key Worker or therapist without your child present.
A Parent-only meeting gives you time to talk about what is happening at home, preschool, school or in the community, work through questions and plan practical things you can try during everyday routines.
Children have many opportunities to learn throughout the week. Working with the people who know them well means these learning opportunities can continue between therapy sessions.
What happens when my child is sick?
Illness is common in early childhood, and sometimes plans need to change at short notice.
If your child is unwell or you cannot attend a session, talk with your Plumtree team member about your options. Depending on the circumstances, there may be another useful way to use the appointment time.
You can find our current cancellation arrangements in your Service Agreement and Welcome Package.

Starting NDIS services with Plumtree

If you choose Plumtree as one of your child’s NDIS providers, we will complete a Service Agreement with you before services begin.
Your Service Agreement explains the supports we have agreed to provide, costs, cancellations, responsibilities and other practical information.
We will also talk with you about your child’s goals and what you would like to work on together.
You don’t need an NDIS plan to connect with Plumtree
Not every child or family who comes to Plumtree has NDIS funding.
If you have questions or concerns about your child’s development, you are welcome to contact us. We also offer free playgroups, workshops, programs and resources for families.
You can come along to one of our drop-in playgroups, MyTime groups or contact us to find out where to start.
You can also contact Lifestart who are the NDIS Early Childhood Partner for the Sydney region.
Getting help with your child’s development
The NDIS early childhood approach is for children younger than 9 with developmental delay or disability and their families.
Through the NDIS Early Connections, families can get information and help to connect with community and mainstream services, other families and early supports. An early childhood partner can also help families understand whether applying to the NDIS may be appropriate. Children do not need to be NDIS participants to receive early connections.
Some of the ways in which the NDIS partner can help you include:
- Sharing information to help you understand your child’s needs
- Suggesting supports available in the community to help you achieve your goals for your child
- Providing initial early supports if your child needs these
- Linking you with other families who also have concerns about their child, if this is something you would like to do
- If your child will be best supported by an NDIS Plan and funding package, we will help you to get started and then work to develop a plan with you
