Supports and strengthens child-parent relationships

Circle of Security is an evidence-based program the helps parents and carers better understand their child’s feelings, needs and behaviour. Through eight guided sessions, you’ll learn practical ways to support your child’s emotional wellbeing while building a stronger, more secure relationship together.

Research shows that when children have at least one secure relationship with a parent or carer, they enjoy better health, stronger relationships, and greater success in their future education.

In this program, you’ll learn to:

better understand what your child is communicating through their behaviour
recognise and respond to your child’s emotional needs
support your child when they are upset, overwhelmed or struggling
build your child’s confidence and sense of security
reflect on your own responses as a parent and what gets in the way when parenting feels difficult

Fathers and male carers are welcome to join our dedicated Circle of Security Parenting program for dads and male carers, where you can connect with other men while exploring ways to support your child’s emotional development.

Who is it for?
For parents, carers and family members of children aged 0 to 12 years.

While Circle of Security is not a disability-specific program, families are supported to apply the approach to their child’s unique needs and circumstances.

When
Weekly online sessions over eight weeks. Each session runs for 2 hours. Because each session builds on the previous week, participants are expected to attend all eight sessions.
Mondays, 19 October to 7 December 2026
7.30 pm to 9.30 pm (NSW, ACT, VIC and TAS)

Where
Online via Zoom.
This program is open to families anywhere in Australia. Joining instructions will be emailed before the program begins. If you require accessibility support, please let us know when registering.

Places are limited. To help create a consistent and supportive group experience, participants will be asked to confirm they can attend all eight sessions. The group will proceed once at least six participants have confirmed their commitment.

Frequently asked question

Is this program suitable for parents of children with disability or developmental delay?

Yes. Circle of Security Parenting focuses on understanding children’s emotional needs and strengthening relationships. The ideas and strategies discussed can be applied across a wide range of family circumstances, including families of children with disability and developmental delay.

Can both parents or carers attend?

Yes. We welcome parents, carers and other family members to attend together. If more than one person plans to attend, please state this in the registration.

Is this service confidential?

Yes. Facilitators maintain confidentiality and ask all participants to respect the privacy of others in the group. However, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed when participating in a group setting, as other participants are responsible for maintaining privacy outside the sessions. Facilitators are also required to follow mandatory reporting and duty of care obligations where there are concerns about safety or wellbeing.

Are the sessions recorded?

Sessions are recordet for internal training and quality assurance purposes only. Recordings are not shared with participants or used for any public purpose.
To help create a safe and respectful environment, participants are asked to keep group discussions confidential.

Do you offer make-up sessions if I can’t make one?

Unfortunately, make-up sessions are not available. Each session builds on the previous week, so participants are expected to attend all eight sessions.
If you miss a session, your facilitator may be able to provide a brief overview of the content covered. If you miss one of the foundational sessions, you may be asked to complete the program in a future group to ensure you receive the full benefit of the course.

Is this service confidential?

Yes. Facilitators maintain confidentiality and ask all participants to respect the privacy of others in the group.

Do I need to have my camera on?

Yes. Participants are asked to keep their camera on throughout the program. This helps create a connected group experience and allows facilitators to confirm attendance for participants seeking a Certificate of Completion.
If you are unable to keep your camera on for any reason, please discuss this with the facilitator or event organiser before the program begins so we can explore available options with you.

Do I get a certificate at the end?

Yes. Participants who attend all sessions and keep their camera on throughout the program will receive a Certificate of Completion.
If you are unable to keep your camera on, we may be able to provide a letter confirming your attendance on specific dates and times instead.

Can professionals attend this program?

This program is for parents, carers and family members only. We are unable to accommodate professionals in this group.
If you work with families, please feel free to share information about the program with those you support.
