Get ready for toilet training

Helping your child become independent with using the toilet is a big step. It involves motor skills, language, and thinking. This workshop introduces families to toilet training and offers a chance to troubleshoot common questions before you get started.

Please note: If your school-aged child is not yet toilet trained after many attempts, you may need extra help from an incontinence nurse. This workshop is for families just starting out with toilet training and may not meet your needs.

Who is it for?
For parents, carers and family members of children aged 0 to 8 years.
This workshop was designed with children with disability or developmental delays in mind; however, many of the strategies are relevant to all children.

Is this program suitable for parents of children with disability or developmental delay?

Yes. This workshop was designed with children with disability or developmental delay in mind. It focuses on the skills children need for toilet training and practical strategies families can use at home.
Many of the ideas discussed are also relevant for families of typically developing children who are preparing to start toilet training.

My child has had several unsuccessful toilet training attempts. Is this workshop right for me?

This workshop is designed for families who are preparing to begin toilet training or are in the early stages of the process.
If your school-aged child is not yet toilet trained after multiple attempts, you may benefit from more specialised support from a continence professional. You can contact the Continence Foundation of Australia on 1800 330 066 for advice and support.

How do I join the online sessions?

After registering, you’ll receive an automated confirmation email with the Zoom link and joining instructions. If you can’t find the email, please check your junk or spam folder.
We will also send you a reminder closer to the event date. You’ll need a stable internet connection and a device that can access Zoom. The recording of the workshop will not be shared with participants.

Are the sessions recorded?

This workshop may be recorded for internal training and quality assurance purposes only. Recordings are not shared with participants or used for any public purpose.
To help create a safe and respectful environment, participants are asked to keep any personal information shared during the workshop confidential

Do I need to participate in discussions?

You are welcome to join in as much or as little as feels right for you. There is no expectation to share personal experiences with the group.
We encourage participants to take part in discussions and reflections where they feel comfortable. Many people find it helpful to listen, reflect and take away ideas that are relevant to their own family.

Is this service confidential?

Yes. Facilitators maintain confidentiality and ask all participants to respect the privacy of others in the group.

Can professionals attend this session?

At this time, this program is available for parents, carers and family members only. We are unable to accommodate professionals in this group. If you work with families, please feel free to share information about the program with those you support.
